The exhibition prepared by the Haus Schlesien Museum in Königswinter near Bonn presents a collection of maps and vedute from the collection of Manfred Spata. The theme of the exhibition is also collecting itself. The opening of the exhibition will be honored by the ceremonial presentation of the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Kłodzko to Mr. Manfred Spata. During the opening, the collector will give an introductory speech to the exhibition. Manfred Spata – a surveyor by profession – was born in 1944 in Kłodzko. The collector is not connected to the city by his childhood memories, but he still feels connected to the Kłodzko region - the native region of his ancestors, which is evidenced by his frequent visits to the Kłodzko region and his many years of exploring and popularizing knowledge about its history and culture. For many years, he collected historical maps and views of his hometown and the entire Silesia, as well as specialist literature necessary to develop them. His extensive knowledge of the Kłodzko region resulted in numerous publications in the field of history, geography and cartography. The exhibition mainly presents old maps of Silesia and its individual regions, city plans and special maps, as well as views of Silesian cities and landscapes, with particular emphasis on the Kłodzko region. The exhibition allows the viewer to become familiar with the history of Silesia, the development of cartography, printing techniques and changing tastes over the course of over 400 years.
